Iona Abbey, with St Oran's chapel in the foreground

Silver penannular brooch very similar to one by Alexander Ritchie from the 1910-1920s period. This one is by the silversmith Harvie of Oban. Unhallmarked. Reverse marks are as shown. Date 1950's? An unusual piece of vintage West Coast Scottish silver jewellery.

Iona silver longship brooch, height 3.5cms, the design is taken from a medieval Iona stone carving. This was made by John McGilvray of Oban, who had family connections with Iona, and was producing his work at the same time Ritchie was working on Iona. This is a nicely made piece, with reverse markings of McG&S, IONA, and Glasgow hallmark for 1929 (two years before Alexander Ritchie began his Iona Celtic Art ICA silver mark).
