Silver Luckenbooth pendant by John Hart, c.1965. Reverse marks of IONA, JH and STERLING. The name is apparantly derived from the fact that these were sold from "locked booths" in the Royal Mile, adjacent to St. Giles Cathedral Edinburgh, in the early 1700s, and they were traditionally exchanged between lovers on betrothal. Subsequently pinned to the shawl of the first baby to protect it from "evil spirits". Intertwining hearts are evidence of their purpose and a surmounting crown symbolises Mary Queen of Scots.

Exotic silver brooch set with real/faux Cairngorm, in the shape of a leaf. Reverse is maked with JH monogram, and IONA, with Edinburgh hallmark for 1968. Unusual and attractive piece.
