Fingal's Cave, Isle of Staffa,
the Inner Hebrides

Fine early Iain MacCormick silver plaid brooch with the early recessed stamps of IMC and IONA, as well as 'Silver' and the early C-A stamp for 'Celtic Arts', which appears to have been MacCormick's own mark (not the CAI 'Celtic Art Industries' stamp which is much more frequently seen). This is an Alexander Ritchie design from the 1920s, continued into the mid-late 1940s by Ritchie's renowned Iona apprentice, Iain MacCormick.

Attractive silver Iona bird brooch by Iain MacCormick. Reverse has marks of IMC, SCOTLAND, STERLING. From the 1950s.

Early sterling silver wrist bracelet by Iain MacCormick, stamped IMC IONA, SILVER and C=A (Celtic Art). Date mid-late 1940s. Delicate and attractive patterning of knotwork beasts.

Fine Iain MacCormick silver and amethyst plaid brooch. Reverse markings of IMC, SCOTLAND, STERLING. Period 1950s. The outer ring design is based on an earlier Alexander Ritchie pattern which can be seen on a ring brooch in the 'Annular Brooches' section of this site.

Interesting and one-off large silver-backed brooch with a polished stone (granite variant rather than Iona marble) from one of Iona's beaches. Possibly made to order from a stone found by a visitor to the island. Reverse markings are IMC IONA STERLING. Date c.1950.

Attractive sword and shield brooch by Iain MacCormick, from an Alexander Ritchie design. The reverse is marked C=A (Celtic Arts), IMC, and IONA on the blade. Early piece late 1940s early 1959s.

Early Iain MacCormick silver brooch, diameter approx 1". Knotwork design, with reverse marks of IMC, IONA, SILVER, and C=A (Celtic Art). Late 1940s/early 1950s.

Most unusual silver double-sided Tara-style brooch by Iain MacCormick. Almost all of these had a plain, undecorated reverse. This one turned up in USA so may well have been made as a commission for someone. Blue and green enamel infill on the front, and amongst the design on the reverse it is marked IMC IONA SCOTLAND sterling. C.1950.

Delightful very small St Columba's Pillow cross by Iain MacCormick, set into a polished Iona stone. Approx 1" height. Silver, marked IMC and Iona. Date c.1950 owards.

Unusual and very early repousse design copper matchbox-holder by Iain MacCormick. Due to the rather basic design, and also the double-struck marks, I wonder if this could have been an apprentice piece made under Alexander Ritchie, and thus just pre-war. I have never seen another like this.

Attractive and unusual silver brooch by Iain MacCormick, with a polished Iona stone inset (probably sourced by him from one of Iona's beaches). Attractive knotwork and birds openwork decoration. The reverse is marked IMC IONA SCOTLAND STERLING. A most attractive brooch, 1950s period.
